Photos by Nichole Sobecki @nicholesobecki | This iconic ferry shuttles passengers and vehicles across an inlet dividing Dar es Salaam’s neighborhoods of Kivukoni and Kigamboni. The wait for a boat can be tedious, but the view of the city’s skyline at dusk more than makes up for it. Over the last decade, blue-accented towers have transformed its downtown skyline; excluding South Africa, the city is now home to four of ten tallest buildings in sub-Saharan Africa. As National Geographic explores changing urban spaces, I had the chance to return to Dar es Salaam, the economic capital of Tanzania and one of the fastest growing cities in Africa.
