July 17, 1942 – official date of the Stalingrad battle’s beginning. ⠀ The forward units of German-fascist armies in composition of the 6th field army of wehrmacht under commandment of Lieutenant General F. Paulus went out to rivers the Chir and the Don and joined the battle with the units of the Soviet 62nd army. The great Stalingrad battle started in the large bend of the Don, on far-distance approaches to Stalingrad. ⠀ By the battle’s beginning 14 German-fascist divisions were forwarded to the Stalingrad direction, in which there were 270 thousand soldiers and officers, 3 thousand guns, 500 tanks, ...
